restoration hardware

Yesterday I was reading an interesting post on one of my favorite blogs Cote De Texas about Restoration Hardware and their new line of pieces. They are done in Belgian design and are so gorgeous! She thought Target might pick up on this hottest new look so it would be affordable for the masses, as these pieces are quite pricey. I have a few items from Restoration Hardware but they don't compare to these new pieces. I love the lighting, just amazing! Check out her blog for real people's houses with good design that she spotlights, another reason I love reading her.

storybook bible

I've mentioned before how much I love the blog Fly Through My Window. Today she posted about a book that is so sweet and would be perfect for my grandson Noah. Love the words from the page on top. Something that is important to teach our children over and over again!

ace hotel palm springs

Our girls trip this last weekend with my mom, sister, sister in law and all our daughters was in Palm Springs. It was fun to get away with just the girls to relax and catch up with all the goings on. We all stayed in a one condo so it was like a huge slumber party, bringing back memories of our teenage years. Lots of fun! While we were there I wanted to go see the much talked about Ace Hotel. Since we weren't staying there we decided to go eat at their restaurant Kings Highway. Their restaurant is an old Denney's that they refurbished with what they call "american peasant food for the desert." The green vinyl booths were replaced with brown leather, and they changed a layer of linoleum to a terrazzo floor. They have French press coffee brewed to order, ice cold water served in bottles, a mini-milk bottle creamer, raw sugar in a little Mason jar. The food is very reasonable and the emphasis is on local and organic. The two favorite foods we ordered were the brisket burger and the fish tacos, very good. Loved all the decor, from the fisherman's net to the cute photo booth as you can see above in the photos I took of the girls. Next time I go to Palm Springs I will definitely stay there so I can enjoy the whole experience of this charming hotel!

bridesmaids cards

This is the cutest idea from Anna Bond of Rifle Design via Once Wed. She made little paper cutouts and decorated them like each of her bridesmaids and put their name on it. She then put them in an envelope with a note saying "Will you be my bridesmaid?" What a unique idea!

girls trip

Danielle is flying in from DC tonight. I am so excited to see here! She is coming home to go on our girls trip. My sister, sister in law and all of our daughters are going to Palm Springs. The last fling before a lot of our kids go back to school. Hard to believe summer is almost over, boy that went fast! Be back to blogging on Monday. Have a great rest of the week and weekend!

5 good things

What a great idea for teaching kids to focus on the positive from Whisper Graphics. Every night at dinner when she asked her kids how their day was they would tend to focus on what went wrong in their day. She would then ask them to tell her 5 good things that happened that day. She found by doing this it helped her kids to focus on the positive instead of the negative. She made up a cute little booklet to record the good things that happened. You can download and print it here. What a wonderful idea for everyone in the family to remind ourselves of all the blessing we have in our life.

birthday shout out on ohdeedoh

Loved seeing Noah featured on Ohdeedoh yesterday with a Birthday Shout Out! Ohdeedoh is a nursery design and decorating website with great ideas and inspiration for anyone with children. Some of their recent posts were hanging kids art from a curtain rod, what ever happened to the playpen and gender nuetral decor for a shared bedroom. For anyone with a little one in their life its a fun site to check out.

tea length wedding dresses

Lately I have been loving tea length wedding dresses. If I got married all over again I would love to wear a tea length wedding dress. Since I am petite I love this style as I have always felt long dresses overwhelm me. These are 3 of my favorites. The 1st photo is a beautiful fashion shoot from Jeremy Harwell via Style Me Pretty. The 2nd one is from Martha Stewart Weddings. The 3rd is a gorgeous vintage 1950's dress from Vogue via A Practical Wedding.

julie & julia

Meryl Streep playing Julia Child

Amy Adams playing Julie Powell

Julia Child's actual kitchen donated to the Smithsonian

I saw the movie Julie & Julia today. Meryl Streep is amazing playing Julia Child and by the end of the movie you just feel she is Julia Child. It is a great story of two women searching and then finding their passions and how their husbands supported them. The food, cooking, Paris, their relationships, I loved it all!

crewcuts

Today was the first day back to school for all the kids where we live. It is so early! I can't believe how they have pushed up the first day of school in the last few years. We have a few years before Noah starts school but I love seeing all the pictures of kids on their first day of school. I was looking through the new crewcuts catalog from J. Crew and just had to post some of their back to school clothes from it. So cute!

wedding invitation booklet

What a sweet wedding invitation booklet that Ryan Musuga created for his own wedding. It is so unique! You can see a link for a slideshow and all about it via Oh So Beautiful Paper.

sibling birth announcements

These sibling birth announcements from tiny prints are so cute! Love the idea of including the older child in the announcement. I have ordered Christmas cards from them many times in the past. They are so easy to work with and the cards arrived quickly and were beautiful!
